Simpson 12th in Final Practice Ahead of 108th Running of Indianapolis 500

Kyffin Simpson was the twelfth fastest driver in the Final Practice session on Friday afternoon, clocking in a speed of 224.824 miles per hour on board the #4 Journie Rewards Chip Ganassi Racing Honda to wrap up Carb Day.

Kyffin and the Journie Rewards team utilized the two-hour window to perform long runs and maximize their time on track, completing as many laps as possible while making final adjustments to his machinery. With the guidance of engineer Danielle Shepherd, strategist Chris Wheeler, and driver coach Sebastian Bourdais, Simpson concentrated on gaining experience running within the larger field of cars, in addition to optimizing his setup ahead of Sunday’s event.

The final laps consisted of back-to-back trips down pit lane for the driver and crew to practice pit stops before the session officially came to a close at 1:00pm.

Following Final Practice, Simpson said:

“It was a decent session. We were able to get a lot of laps completed. In total, I think we did roughly 115 laps, so that’s really good. We got a lot of pack running done today and I’m feeling much more comfortable with it overall. Looking forward to Sunday now!”

The 19-year-old Caymanian driver starts the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 from the sixth row on the grid after qualifying 18th overall, also standing out as the first-ever qualifier from the Caribbean and the third rookie overall. Live coverage for the INDY 500 will begin at 11:00am ET on NBC and Peacock on Sunday, May 26th.

Earlier in the week, Simpson completed Monday’s Practice 8 session with a total of 57 laps, before spending time on Wednesday at Central Elementary to partake in INDY 500 themed games with school children for Community Day. Media Day followed on Thursday, with official press conferences and interviews from national and international outlets.
