Simpson gears up for first FR Americas race event of 2021

Kyffin Simpson begins his 2021 season this weekend at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta with series debutants TJ Speed Motorsports, concluding an extended pre-season test programme that saw the 16-year-old sample FR Americas, Indy Pro 2000, GT, LMP3 and Dirt Midget machinery.

Multiple kart champion Kyffin made the step up to FR Americas last year with front-runners HMD Motorsport following a competitive display in the F4 US Championship. Having worked with TJ Speed owner Tim Neff through 2020, Kyffin aims to battle at the front of the FR Americas field for race wins in 2021.

Embarking on a full FR Americas Championship Powered by Honda programme for the first time, Kyffin will race 18 rounds across some of America’s most famous race venues, including a one-off trip to Canada for the famous Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières in August.

Looking forward to his first race weekend of 2021, Kyffin said:

“It’s been a slightly longer off-season than what we’re used to, but I’m thankful that we’re finally going racing. Tim, the team and I have worked hard over the winter to prepare for my first full season [in FR Americas], so I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do at Road Atlanta. The track is one of my favourites; fast and flowing with some elevation changes. A real rollercoaster!”

Tim Neff, TJ Speed owner, said:

“Our goal is to win, but we know that this series has a lot of talented drivers and nothing is easy in motorsports. We will strive to score our best results each and every race weekend and attain as many points as possible in the championship chase.”

The 2021 FR Americas Championship Powered by Honda series calendar is as follows:

  • March 26-28 2021 – Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta: Atlanta Speed Tour
  • May 14-16 2021 – Road America: Spring Vintage Festival
  • July 16-18 2021 – Brainerd International Raceway
  • August 13-15 2021 – Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières: GP3R
  • September 24-26 2021 – Virginia International Raceway: Andy Scriven Memorial Race Weekend
  • November 5-7 2021 – Circuit of the Americas: Austin SpeedTour

FR Americas made its television debut with 14 unique one-hour episodes, saturating national cable and broadcast networks like MAV TV, REV’N, Altitude Sports Network, Eleven Sports and on a number of regional CW and NBC affiliates, reaching more than 80 million North American households. Broadcasting packages for 2021 are still in negotiations.
